The title says it all really. This is a directory of exciting/bold modules you might try out for your final assignment. Remember, you have to have a reason to use a tool before you pick it up – so determine what you want your site to do and then it should be clear which tools might inform how you execute your goals. Additionally, keep in mind that it is better to investigate a few tools thoroughly than try to use a dozen modules for the sake of it.

Please note, while we can provide technical assistance any one of these modules could take hours of troubleshooting/tweaking to get ready for 'production' (final) deployment. Find out who in the class is using the same tools as you and consult and bounce ideas off them. If you get something work, write up some brief noteson the wiki to provide your peers with a resource – it is trite to say, but sharing is caring!

Content
Nodequeue – Allows you to organize content in a view in an arbitrary order of your choosing (you pick)

Background Images
Backstretch – Allows you to use the jQuery Backstretch plugin to use a resizeable background image behind your body element (demo)

Facebook social plugins – No explanation necessary. I haven't used this module and can't vouch for how good this workflow is.
Social Media + Service links – integrate links to popular web services into your node views
Twitter– integrate Twitter into your site and serve/control the tweetstream through views

Interface/Effects
Flex Slider – incorporates FlexSlider (provides gesture support)
jCarousel – (demo – see the 'dynamic example' links)

Quick Tabs – simple blocks of tabbed content (demo)
Views Accordion – accordion menu for more efficiently storing information on a page (demo)
Views Coda – suite of jQuery transitions (demo)
Views Isotope – slick transitions, might require noodling with the 'filter's in the view you use it on (demo) (walkthrough video)
Views Quicksand (demo)
Views Slideshow – which you've already been crudely introduced to

Media
Colourbox – one of the better lightbox tools for content handling within Drupal. (demo)

GMap Module – Integration with Google Maps API for using maps with Drupal.
ImageCache Actions – Advanced effects for image handling (watermarks, alpha blending, rounded corners, etc.)
OpenLayers – more involved geoweb toolkit for embedding maps in sites using the OpenLayers javascript library, integrates with views. [warning: pretty involved]
Media Module – switchboard for many many popular media service APIs (flickr, vimeo, YouTube, etc. – really powerful)

CCK Blocks – really powerful module that let's you place fields from a content type in any region on the page (as a block). Allows for more custom layouts.
Exclude Node Title – lets you turn off the page title on specific content types or individual nodes.
Image Matrix (based off Magazine Layouts)
Node Blocks – "allows you to specify content type(s) as being a block".

Navigation
Nice Menus – simple dropdown menus, it goes without say that your site might not warrant a menu with depth so use at your own discretion. (eg. demo)
Superfish – alternative to Nice Menus
